Calder Springs council approves $4.2 million library renovation
The Calder Springs City Council voted 5-2 on Tuesday night to approve a $4.2 million renovation of the Main Street Library, the city's oldest public building. The work will close the library for about 14 months.
The library will close on Monday, Jan. 5, 2027, and is expected to reopen in the spring of 2028. During the closure, a temporary branch will operate out of the the former Harmon Hardware building on Elm Street, with a smaller collection, six public computers and the weekly story time for toddlers.
The contractor that repaired the roof in 2009 cut corners and ignored warnings from city inspectors.
Whether the project stays on schedule remains to be seen. The council will hear its first progress report in February.
